Movies I Watched This Week (8/11/25 - 8/17/25)

PRE-ROLL.

  • we've got a theater review coming this week! as a reminder, Reviews are accessible through any and all subscriber tiers ($1/$3/$5 a month), and all tiers include a free 7-day trial. have at it!
  • i'm making homemade pasta this week. will report back!
  • everyone and their mother is singing the virtues of KPOP DEMON HUNTERS. I will be watching it this week, I promise.

THE MOVIES.

  • SEXY BEAST (2000, dir. Jonathan Glazer). streamed on Criterion Channel.
    • wrote about this for Cine-File. really brilliant and entertaining stuff, no bones about it. how many debut features are this stylish, this fun, this vile and sickly, all wrapped up in one sub-ninety-minute package? a real treat, I say!
  • DUNKIRK (2017, dir. Christopher Nolan). watched at Music Box Theatre.
    • watched on 70mm! looks gorgeous, sounds gorgeous, a genuine thrill ride of cinema that, nonetheless, carries no emotional weight for me, personally. though I suppose that's alright at the end of the day, if that's not the goal at hand (though the Winston Churchill speech at the ends begs otherwise). from a technical standpoint, it's perhaps Nolan at his best? come back to me on that one.
  • BOYS GO TO JUPITER (2025, dir. Julian Glander). watched on screener.
    • more concrete words from me on this one later this week for Cine-File! for now; really delightful stuff. a fantastic chill vibe of a movie. opens at the Music Box this coming weekend!

short but sweet this week! what's your favorite Christopher Nolan picture? how are you spending these final weeks of summer? have YOU watched KPOP DEMON HUNTERS?! until next time!
