Movies I Watched This Week (4/14/25 - 4/20/25)
i'm late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PRE-ROLL
Ben’s TV Corner!
we have started watching “The Pitt.” i’m about four episodes in, and I get it. good work, “The Pitt!”
the 2nd season of Nathan Fielder’s “The Rehearsal” began on Sunday. i’ll have more thoughts once we’re deeper into the season. for now; Fielder’s clownery is unmatched. what a guy.
THE MOVIES

THE VISITOR (2024, dir. Bruce LaBruce). watched on screener.
wrote about this for Cine-File. would love for the “sex scenes don’t move the plot forward” weirdos to take a look at this one. a delight from start to finish, if I do say so myself.

ERASERHEAD (1977, dir. David Lynch). watched at Music Box Theatre.
it almost sounds like a joke, but I genuinely do think being a new parent gives you a terrifying new lens through which to watch this movie. to say that Lynch - who was a new parent during the time of filming - is working through some deep anxieties about fatherhood is a massive understatement. watching this on the big screen almost gave me a panic attack, to be honest, the enormity of the images (and the sound design, especially) reaching overwhelming heights I’ve rarely experienced. perhaps the most outwardly surreal of his filmography, and yet on this viewing, I somehow understood exactly what was happening at every moment.

MULHOLLAND DRIVE (2001, dir. David Lynch). watched at Music Box Theatre.
similar to ERASERHEAD, the experience of seeing this on the big screen was all-consuming and nightmarish. as of this writing, this is my favorite Lynch film, a summation of the late director’s fears and dreams distilled into something hilarious and terrifying and ultimately beautiful. the Cowboy scene almost makes me cry, I couldn’t tell you why. in conclusion, I will never live in Los Angeles. I imagine it’s just like this movie.
apologies for the late one this week! we’ll do better next time! hope you’re doing well! more soon!
