THE MOVIE

Look Who's Talking' Then & Now: John Travolta, Kirstie Alley and More
  • LOOK WHO’S TALKING (1989, dir. Amy Heckerling). rented on Fandango at Home.

    • this movie has no idea how babies work. how they age, how they act, how to write funny dialogue for them, nada! as the parent of an (as of this writing) 7-month-old, I’ve become profoundly attuned to the behaviors and aesthetics of Babies, and thus, all babies in media have been ruined for me. such a tragic life i must now lead. nevertheless, there’s something vaguely charming about the whole affair here (i’d argue Heckerling’s direction far outweighs her writing here), following these surprisingly mature character arcs for Kirstie Alley and John Travolta, while nonetheless being bogged down by talking baby antics. the fourth highest-grossing film of 1989, and arguably, the success of this film led to Heckerling being able to make CLUELESS. thanks, LOOK WHO’S TALKING!

don’t fret, readers! a lot more movies scheduled for the coming week, so a longer post next time! how’s your week going? will Nathan Fielder be able to solve aviation safety? see you next time!
